Honduran gang member to be deported from Kenner following gun ammo conviction, police say

KENNER, La. (WVUE) - A 19-year-old Honduran national is set to be deported from Kenner following a federal judge’s sentencing.

According to the Kenner Police Department, Franklyn Orellano-Velasquez, also known as “Rony Aguilera” and “Rochy Gutierrez,” was arrested in Sept. 2022 when he was found in possession of 30 rounds of .223 rifle ammunition. Police Chief Keith Conley says Orellano-Velasquez was in the United States illegally and undocumented.

Police later determined Orellano-Velasquez was a member of the 18th Street Gang, based on tattoos he had.

Orellano-Velasquez was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and sentenced to 17 months in prison. Upon completion of his sentence, he will face deportation.

Orellano-Velasquez’s sentencing comes on the heels ofan arrest of a second undocumented migrant in Kenner accused of rape and a stabbing.
