S20.E01: London Calling - Top Chef

I’m so glad this show is back!  It’s not up there with football season, but it’s a good time of year.

I really like seeing the food of those who have won/come close to winning other countries' versions of TC.  I like this international format (and London is a good location for that; I love that city!).  We are in for some impressive food this season, that’s for sure.  Like Padma said, it usually takes longer to get this many great dishes.

It was interesting to hear a little bit about how the show's format is different in some of the other countries; I hope to learn more of that.

It was also interesting to see how people chose partners for the QF.  I like that none of the Americans paired up with each other.  And I like how excited Tom was by the quality of the food in this very first challenge.  I most wanted to reach through the TV and eat the langoustine, so I’m glad that won.  (The scallop dish looked great, too.)

I love a great many vegetables, but I’m not generally a fan of vegetarian entrées, so I like that the EC was merely required to be “vegetable forward”.

I would have happily chowed down on every single dish.  Begoña had the dish I was most interested in, but I was also highly intrigued by spending a fraction of the budget and churning out a great onion dish, so good for Charbel.

Dawn is one of my favorites because, in the entire history of TC, in her season she probably most consistently made the food I would choose to eat if I could only try one dish.  And I’m fascinated by how great it must indeed taste since she made it all the way to the finals despite having time management issues and several times being judged on a dish that wasn’t fully what she’d intended it to be.  So I had a moment of nervousness for her to be up for elimination in the first episode.  But I knew hers was a better dish than the other two and could breathe easy.

You can’t serve shrimp poop at this level, so, yeah, that was a pretty easy call for elimination.
